Jillian Ennis O’Boyle is Athboy’s Community Person of the Year for 2016.
Jillian is a very popular winner of this year’s award, which was presented to her in the Darnley Lodge Hotel at the Annual St. Patrick’s Presentation Night.
A hugely inspirational person in the locality - everyone who knows her can attest to her positivity despite everything she has been through.
Jillian has survived not just one but five strokes and just over a year ago, had a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy. But despite her debilitating setbacks, courageous Jillian has gone on to participate in her second 10k mini-marathon - and is even planning to compete in another race over the coming year.
Aged just 32, Jillian Ennis O'Boyle remembers it as the happiest day of her life in April 2011 – the day she walked unaided out the doors of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. She described it as "like winning the Lotto". Jillian, now 37, recalled what it was like to have a stroke: "When I woke up I was like a baby. I had no mobility in the right side of my body and my speech had completely gone, so I couldn't communicate."
A very worthy recipient, there is no doubt that Jillian will be an excellent ambassador for the town of Athboy.
