St Patrick’s Day Parade 2015

Athboy Parade - Back to the Future

After months of careful planning the 31st Annual St. Patricks Day Parade in Athboy was deemed a great success. Almost 50 floats participated in the parade providing a huge variety of entertainment much to the delight of the record crowds who gathered to watch.

The theme of ‘Back to the Future’ was very evident and the sight of two De Loreans travelling down Athboy’s main street delighted the spectators. The local ICA ladies took the theme in hand and provided much entertainment with their back to front performance while other groups took different ideas from the theme and there were hover boards, nerdy doctors and some very futuristic gadgets on view.

Massive effort was put in by all participants and Comhaltas Tlachtga won the overall prize for their wonderful demonstration of Irish music and singing, while Reel Deal Dance Academy were delighted to take the top prize for most entertaining group after a wonderful performance at the review stand.

As part of this year’s celebrations, the committee organised an Art Competition – a total of 550 wonderful pictures were received from National Schools in Athboy, Rathmore, Rath Cairn, Kilbride, Kildalkey and Coolronan. These were on display in the local Macra Hall during the parade. The committee would like to thank the pupils and the school staff for their help in making the competition such a success.

Chairman of the organising committee Paudie Miggin thanked all those who helped make the event such a success, He praised the hard work of the volunteers and committee members, and thanked the sponsors and supporters for their generosity.
